Common Terminal Questions
How do I Change the setting for the Terminal Program
We have two main versions of the Terminal Program. For the DOS version of the terminal program the following table describes how to set the terminal up.
| ALT-F1 |
Display the help page |
| ALT-F2 |
Set a new 'HOT KEY' to pop up the terminal (default ALT-Z) |
| ALT-F3 |
Select the COM port used by the terminal (default COM1) |
| ALT-F4 |
Save the current terminal configuration |
| ALT-F5 |
Display the current configuration |
| ALT-F6 |
Select the baud rate for communications (default 9600) |
| ALT-F8 |
Send an ASCII file to the target system |
| ALT-F10 |
Exit the terminal leaving it resident |
| CTRL-F10 |
Exit the terminal and remove it |
For the Windows terminal ALT-F3 brings up a dialog box which allows you to change the communication parameters. The dialog box may not always be in view so you may need to click on the tool bar at the bottom of the screen to bring it into view. The Windows terminal does not support the graphics modes or the function key features that the DOS program supports.
Can I use a standard Terminal program such as Hyperterminal?
A standard terminal can be used with our controllers to a limited extent. You can use the standard terminal to view messages, enter data and run programs. You can not use a standard terminal program to download programs or save programs. Our terminal programs recognise some control codes that are used by the serial and disk drive support drivers to allow the PC filing system to be used to store programs and other data. Without these special control codes the file handling is disabled. For more details on the terminal control codes please refer to the document TERM.PDF.
